e-working in balance

It is a reality that in the United States and Latin America we must take extreme prevention measures in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will imply that teleworking will continue. It is essential to stay focused and productive without losing balance regarding your personal and family life. Make sure you set limits.

My daily life involves different roles and activities: studying, working, collaborating with housework and childcare, maintaining a healthy diet, meditating, exercising, and stopping counting. Today I share with you some recommendations that make my remote work effective in balance:

  • Get up and get ready like when you went to work. It is very difficult to activate the productive mode in pajamas.

  • Establish and prepare with everything necessary the place in the house that will function as your office and make sure that all the people who live with you respect it.

  • Establish work, family, and personal hours. This means that family members should not interfere with your work time: and that at the same time, you will establish spaces for family time, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and for yourself; for example to meditate, exercise or plan. Your personal or family matters should not interfere with your work schedule, nor your work the time that corresponds to you or your family.

  • Plan your schedule. Establish what your priorities are, those things that can wait, and those that can really be left undone, and organize yourself to fulfill them during the day or week.

  • Identify what your distractions are and eliminate them.

  • Distribute household chores among all the people who live with you, according to their age and abilities.

Some people find it difficult to apply these measures at home. But, I guarantee that your routine will be much more manageable if you implement them. So, are you ready? Shall we start this Monday?
