Dear 2020: Thank you very much for what you have taught me!

It is unquestionable that 2020 has been a different year in the whole world and that it has represented something different for each one of us. How to evaluate it? It is a subject that varies from person to person; however, on the one hand, I find it curious to find acquaintances who say that it has been the worst year of their lives but: they did not get sick, nor did they lose a family member or their jobs, and they did not work in areas such as health, which generated a high level of demand and sacrifice to their professionals, they maintained their level of income and were close to the people they love; on the other hand, I also know people who had their health at risk, lost a loved one or something very important in their life and evaluate 2020 as transcendental and not as a bad year. How is this explained?

Personally, I think that this has been an extremely challenging year because of the changes I experienced and what I saw that the whole world had to live with; but also, it has been the year in which I have experienced my greatest spiritual growth. So, for me, without a doubt, it has been one of the best years of my life.

I have always lived at a thousand kilometers per hour. I am a machine of dreams and projects in the different areas of my life, and I do not rest until I achieve them. However, 2020 gave me the opportunity to stop, take a break, enjoy my home, eat healthily and without rushing, sleep better, spend much more time with my family, read, train (study, watch podcasts, videos, and take online courses). I didn't have time to do before), question my beliefs, and the rules of society, review my priorities, identify my ultimate goals, set limits, and discover what is really valuable and makes me happy. An important project for me was starting Impronta de Mujer, where I have had the opportunity to build an extraordinary community and share with it every wonderful thing that I have learned, tried, and proven to work. In short, during 2020 there were many and very important things that I discovered and that we have been sharing through @ImprontadeMujeroficial; today I want to highlight the most relevant learnings that from this year are part of my philosophy of life:

Our reality is the projection of our beliefs. If we should be selective about something, it is what we believe in, because your life is the result of what you believe. Have you ever heard Henry Ford's phrase that says: “if you think you can, it is true; And if you think you can't, that's also true”? So the key is to remove any beliefs that limit you and replace them with those that empower you to enjoy an unlimited life.

Everything I always believed I had to be, do and achieve to be happy, was false. Do you know human beings who manage to satisfy their true needs, obtain money and material things, acquire fame, a career and raise a family but they are not necessarily to be happy? Being happy is a state that we can achieve here and now by practicing empowering habits, some are simpler and others require commitment and determination, for example: continuously practicing kindness, generosity, gratitude, and compassion; achieving a good social connection, maintaining a healthy diet, exercise, respect the hours of sleep and forgive (to others and to oneself). When you are happy you can achieve any goal you want, regardless of whether you need it or not.

We are spirits living a human experience. Our real job is to grow. What really makes us feel fulfilled and gives meaning to our lives is having a mission that raises our level of consciousness and leaves a legacy or mark on the world. We can spend the rest of our lives believing that we are not happy because we do not have a partner, a child, a big house with a pool, a car, millions of dollars, material goods, travel, an important position, a successful career, a job or business. highly profitable or millions of followers on the networks. But, if you put your mind to it and achieve any of these things (or all), you will discover that the feeling of joy is fleeting and lasts for the brief moment, or until shortly after, of reaching your achievement; then, you will need more and more until you never finish. The only thing that generates a state of real fulfillment is to grow, become a better person and dedicate your life to doing something that has a purpose and that makes your life and the lives of others better.

There is a world outside and another within us. In our inner world are all our power and all the answers we need. We are enough. We don't need validation from something or someone outside of us. All human beings, even those living in extreme conditions, have something to be grateful for. So, don't focus on what you lack, pay your attention to the here and now, to the blessings you enjoy, to what you have achieved since your life began until today, and live gratefully.

The reason why so many people who did not lose someone or something very precious to them during 2020 focus solely on the fact that it is boring to be at home, to wear a mask, among others; it is that they did not visualize the great opportunity that this year offered them to grow and discover wonders such as those that we have shared in the four previous points. The good news is that 2020 is not over and you still have the opportunity to reflect on what we have talked about in this article and make this year one of the best of your life. So, I invite you to do it now!
